Diabetes Technology Toolkit - Earn 3.0 CEs

$ 59.00 $ 69.00

As Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, we are expected to have expertise in diabetes technologies to improve person-centered care and optimize outcomes.

Yet, when it comes to insulin pumps, sensors, and calculations many of us feel overwhelmed and unsure about diabetes technology management. Coach Beverly created this 2-part Technology Toolkit to provide you with critical information on Insulin Pumps, Calculations, and Continuous Glucose Monitors.

If you want cutting edge information on diabetes technology, problem-solving and using a formula to determine appropriate insulin dosing, we highly recommend this toolkit.

Two Online Courses are included in this Technology Toolkit:

  • Tech 101 - Pumps and Sensors Update
  • Tech 102 - Insulin Pump Calculations: From Basal to Square Bolus

Can't join us live? Recorded video and podcast versions are ready for On-Demand Viewing. All updates webinars are uploaded within 4 hours of live show ending.

What People Are Already Saying About Our Toolkit:

I am new to diabetes technology and appreciated an overview of options and features. This webinar provided a great foundation as well as resources. Thank you.

I love the disaster readiness section and all the resources you provided us with to help others in times of crisis. I completed your Boot Camp program 3 years ago and successfully obtained my CDCES in 2016. I have recommended you to anyone who has asked me for resources when studying to become a CDCES.

Tech 101 - Pumps & Sensors Update - 1.5 CEs

Join Coach Beverly for an overview of the complex world of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors. This webinar will discuss the features of available technologies, basic functions, and how to integrate these into our practice. We will discuss the benefits, considerations, and critical information to share with clients and providers.

1. Discuss features of available professional and personal CGMs and insulin pumps.

  1. List components of CGMs and insulin pumps
  2. Describe appropriate candidates for insulin pump therapy
  3. List preparation for disasters and travel for pump / CGM wearers.

"I am new to insulin pumps and working at the Inpatient Diabetes Educator in the hospital.  I have a lot to learn and this class has really helped!"

Tech 102 - Insulin Pump Calculations: From Basal to Square Bolus - 1.5 CEs

Determining basal and bolus rates for insulin pumps can seem overwhelming.  This course provides participants with a step-by-step approach to determine basal rates, bolus ratios, and how to problem-solve when blood glucose levels aren’t on target.  Included is a discussion on DKA recognition and an explanation of the safe use of technology in the hospital setting.

  1. Describe critical teaching content before starting insulin pump therapy
  2. Discuss strategies to determine and fine-tune insulin pump basal rates.
  3. Discuss how to determine and fine-tune bolus rates including coverage for carbs and hyperglycemia.
  4. State important safety measures to prevent hyperglycemic crises.
  5. List inpatient considerations for insulin pump therapy and CGMs
"Tons of information on pump usage, calculations. Great class."
"Helpful to understand the calculations as an RD"

These courses are knowledge-based activities designed for individuals or groups of diabetes educators, including RNs, RDs, Pharmacists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, and other health care providers interested in enhancing their knowledge of insulin pumps, glucose sensors and using formulas to determine appropriate insulin dosing.

Instructor: Beverly Thomassian, RN, MPH, CDCES, BC-ADM is a nationally recognized expert, working educator, and Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF School of Nursing.
